The Chester Wind Symphony is a concert band with full instrumentation that draws from the areas of Southern Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, and Petersburg Virginia.

Our group is not your typical community band. We play our instruments because we want to improve our skills, while learning some of the great concert band literature, past and present. We play mostly traditional style wind band music, not Broadway musical transcriptions. We enjoy playing music from movies, just not the same ones every year. Our group is very family oriented, with husband and wife, brother and sister, or father and daughter, playing side-by-side. Although rehearsals can get quite lively, everyone is having a great time playing their instrument.

To become a member of this group, you must be at least high school age and can play a band instrument. The skill level of the performer is not relevant, just the willingness to work to improve. We have performers who haven’t touched their instrument in 30 years come back and do just fine. Membership in the group is free. We function solely on donations from members and the community.
